Saturday league football was once again the focal point with 48 of the 56 SSML clubs in action. For these clubs it was a busy afternoon for the numerous hard working volunteers who work tirelessly off the field ensuring that these games take place. Several of the new clubs continued to enjoy their new life in the SSML.

SATURDAY’S HEADLINES

There were plenty of goals on Saturday with Eynesbury Rovers and Winslow United both scoring five on their travels. Steven Gentle (Eynesbury Rovers) and Richard Georgiou (New Salamis) both netting hat-tricks. Sin-Bins recorded its biggest Saturday of the season to date with no less than nine players kicking their heels for ten minutes. Eight clubs currently have 100% records while seven clubs have yet to obtain their first points of the new campaign (this does not include the four clubs still to start this season.

 

17 August Stats: 24 games played of which 12 were home wins, 10 away wins and 2 draws with a total of 98 goals (Average 4.08 per game).

SATURDAY 17th AUGUST

 

PREMIER DIVISION

Colney Heath and Aylesbury Vale Dynamos remain the only two Premier Division clubs who can boast 100% league records to date after both made it three out of three on Saturday. Colney Heath defeated Dunstable Town 3-0 while Aylesbury Vale Dynamos recorded a 1-0 win against Wembley, the only goal being an unfortunate own goal. Oxhey Jets recorded the comeback of the day as they recovered from 0-3 after 51 minutes to draw 3-3 at home against Arlesey Town. Tring Athletic obtained their first league win of the new campaign with a 4-1 success at home against last season’s Division One champions Harefield United. Eynesbury Rovers showed why they are regarded as one of the favourites for the title with a thumping 5-0 success at Broadfields United. On a day that saw an average of 4.2 goals scored in the Premier Division fixtures, there were big wins for London Colney and Baldock Town, Colney defeating Biggleswade United 4-1 while Baldock saw off visiting Edgware Town 4-2. Newport Pagnell Town defeated North Greenford United 3-1 while Leverstock Green also enjoyed a 3-1 home win against Potton United, results that leave the defeated clubs occupying the relegation places. Harpenden Town were the winners in the day’s other fixture as they defeated their guests Leighton Town by the odd goal in three. Full results and goalscorers are listed below.

DIVISION ONE

Fans were treated to a seven goal thriller at Langford where the hosts went down 3-4 to Enfield Borough. SSML new-boys Shefford Town & Campton and St Panteleimon continue to set the pace at the top of the table, leaders Shefford Town & Campton winning 4-1 at Hillingdon Borough while for St Panteleimon it was honours even as they were held 1-1 at home by Brimsdown. Bedford recorded a solitary goal home success against Amersham Town. The day’s biggest winners were Winslow United who won convincingly at FC Broxbourne Borough. Elsewhere there were away day successes for New Salamis, Ampthill Town and Rayners Lane as they defeated Buckingham Athletic, London Lions and London Tigers respectively. Relegated Stotfold saw off the challenge of visiting Park View by the odd goal in three while Milton Keynes Robins came out on top at home to Wodson Park, the hosts winning 3-2. Life in Division Two continues to be proving hard for Codicote as they look for their first win, Saturday saw the club slipping to a 1-3 defeat at Pitstone & Ivinghoe. Last season’s champions Bovingdon find themselves bottom of the table as visiting Mursley United won a tight game by the odd goal in five. Sarratt were another side beaten by the odd goal in five as visitors Berkhamsted Raiders came out on top. The day’s other action saw Aston Clinton squeezing past Tring Corinthians AFC, the visitors winning 2-1. Full results and goalscorers listed below.
