Bill Hamilton was at Rayners Lane on Saturday to award the club a couple of trophies and sends this report – The Mad Scot, Bill Hamilton, turned up at Rayners Lane, laden with two trophies to mark the pre-shutdown successes of the West London club in terms of both their playing and Respect records. The game against high flying Bedford drew a sizeable crowd who were treated to a highly entertaining match from two sides committed to attack on a 3G pitch which we hear is now attracting growing community involvement throughout the week. Bedford used their pace and swift inter-passing game to maximum effect in the first half and thanks to goals from Steve Burford and James Barron reached the interval with a two goal lead. Andy Ali who had flashed a header just wide just prior to the break, reduced the deficit seven minutes into the second half. It was the cue for Rayners Lane to step up the pressure in search of an equalizer but they had to rely on two excellent saves from keeper Caolan Doyle-Creamer as Bedford continued to break quickly out of defence. In the 71st minute, the home side finally drew level as Josh Noyes cut the ball back for a splendid finish from Kildane Tesfu. Two trophies – two goals apiece – and at the end, applause from an appreciable audience for two sides lifting the gloom in these difficult days of the pandemic.
